Need for Speed Rivals Teaser Trailer

Need for Speed Rivals has just been announced. Coming to current gen and next-gen consoles later this year, Need for Speed Rivals is said to "destroy" the line between single and multiplayer experiences with its all new AllDrive feature. Basically, friends will be able to drop in and drop out of a game at-will, allowing players to go from single player to co-op to multiplayer, perhaps without even realizing it. Also, Ferrari is back! Ferrari is back!
Criterion Games is hard at work on another game, so EA had to put together an entirely new studio to keep Need for Speed games coming out every year. Introducing Ghost Games, whose first project will be Need for Speed Rivals. Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghosts Games, had the following to say:
"The Need for Speed franchise has been an industry leader bringing social competition to the forefront in games. For the first time, players will have the freedom to seamlessly go from single player to co-op to multiplayer. In Need for Speed Rivals we are creating one game experience with one progression, where the freedom to play with friends is more fluid and accessible than ever before."
Basically, Need for Speed Rivals boils down to cops vs. robbers. Robbers run away and get points for escaping, while cops chase and get points for busting robbers. I'm sure there are many more details involved, as well as several trademarked terms and phrases, but yeah. Racing game about cops and robbers.
Here's a short list of features from the Need for Speed Rivals press release:
  • Next-Gen Racing – Redview County is brought to life with stunning, next-generation detail
  • Need for Speed Network Powered by Autolog Gamers can compare stats and challenge their friends anytime, anywhere and then easily share their accomplishments with both friends and rivals.
  • Personalization – Drivers customize their ride with fresh paintjobs, custom license plates, liveries decals and rims, as well as performance upgrades.
  • Pursuit and Evasion Tech – White-knuckle racing explodes with 11 upgradeable gadgets including turbo boosts, jammers and EMPs for racers, and shockwaves, roadblocks and helicopters for cops.
Need for Speed Rivals is planned for release on Xbox 360 and PS3 November 19. It will also come to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 "later this year." We can probably assume the vagueness is due to the consoles not having a launch date yet. My best guess would be that the next-gen version will launch at the same time as the current-gen games.

Bungie and Activision have launched “Law of the Jungle,” a live-action trailer for the the much-anticipated game "Destiny," the first ever collaboration between the developer and publisher. Activision tapped 72andSunny to create the film, directed by "Iron Man" helmer Jon Favreau (who worked with the agency on its all-star Super Bowl Samsung Spot) and starring actor Giancarlo Esposito, perhaps best known as bad guy Gus Fring on AMC’s “Breaking Bad.”
"Destiny" is the new title from the creators of the Halo franchise and casts gamers as Guardians of the Earth’s last outpost. Their goal is to scour the solar system for all that was lost during the fall of mankind’s Golden Age. In the trailer, Esposito recounts the tale of one Guardian on his quest to reclaim our Solar System, bringing strength to his pack, but also gaining power from it. The film also announces the game's upcoming gameplay reveal, set for June 10 during the Sony Playstation E3 press conference.

This Is The XBOX One

Microsoft has just unveiled its first console in almost eight years – this is why the Xbox One was worth the wait. Assuming you live in North America...

Microsoft has taken the wraps off the Xbox One – and unlike Sony's PlayStation 4 launch, it actually managed to bring a console along to the party. Along with a new name, it's packed in an array of features including more intuitive voice controls, a fancy controller, a more sensitive Kinect, some next-gen games and a Halo Television Series made by Spielberg. Want the complete low-down on the one Xbox to rule them all? Read on.

Xbox One – entertainment

The Xbox One is voice activated – as all self-respecting future gadgets should be. That means that the console will spring to life and recognise you when you utter the words “Xbox on”. Similarly, “Xbox TV” takes you to live TV. And an Instant Switching feature lets you jump between features instantly by simply saying “go to game”, “TV”, “Internet Explorer”, “watch movie”. It certainly seems seamless in Microsoft's demo presentation – we'll be checking carefully in our hands-on.

Gesture controls seem to work flawlessly too, with the help of the new, more accurate Kinect. Simply grab and pull out while on the homescreen, and the movie or game tile will pop out and fill the screen. Snap Mode lets you run multiple windows at once, which can be controlled using your phone – for example, you can watch a film and look up movie times along the side. You can also have Skype running down the side of the screen, so you can chat with pals while watching a film or gaming. Cleverly, while watching sport you can access your fantasy team along the side while watching a game – although global football fans may be disappointed that it appears to be NFL only right now. But with instant updates to your team as live scores change, we're hoping it'll be updated to include other sports on release.
Even the TV guide is smart. It features voice controlled search, favourites and trending. Name a show or channel to easily jump between viewing. The favourites section lets you pin your most loved shows all in one place. Trending lets you see the most popular shows being watched – if you're not into chosing for yourself.

Xbox One – specs

Microsoft's aiming to future-proof the Xbox One – as well it might, since we're now some eight years on from the launch of the Xbox 360. To that end, the Xbox One packs in an eight-core processor based on the AMD Jaguar design, 500GB hard drive, 5bn transistors (compared to 1.4bn in your average current chip), 8GB DDR3 RAM, USB 3.0, a Blu-ray drive, a 64-bit architecture, and variable power states, all while running four time quieter than the Xbox Slim and supporting 4K video output. There will be three 802.11n Wi-Fi radios allowing one to connect with controllers while two can strengthen Wi-Fi or the third could connect to a mobile device. And there will be three levels of operating system in the Xbox One Architecture including Xbox One OS and Windows kernel to facilitate that seamless switching feature. All this but it won't be Xbox 360 game backwards compatible.

Xbox One – Kinect

The new Kinect sensor has super-vision, with a 250,000 pixel infrared depth sensor that can see you in more accurate detail than ever. For example it now has wrist and shoulder rotation recognition. It can even read your heartbeat. Scary cool. It's also a better listener with a more conversational voice system that better understands what you say.

Xbox One – controller

Thank the gaming gods, Microsoft hasn't changed the Xbox One controller too much from the previous generation. You get better grips on the sticks and more subtle button colours – but enough about aesthetics – the main point is that the new controller delivers feedback directly into the triggers. Tingly. The new Kinect will also recognise when you're using the controller and track its position – letting you raise the controller to hold up a shield in-game, for instance.

Xbox One – cloud power

Microsoft has 300,000 servers ready for Xbox One – more than the entire world’s computing power in 1999. That means bigger matches with more players – effectively offering the ability to live in persistent worlds. Goodbye reality.

Xbox One – editing

A gaming DVR will come built-in with the console. And thanks to editing software you'll be able to instantly cut and change your latest frag as you please. Presumably upload to your choice of sharing platform will be easy too.

Xbox One – games

EA will bring FIFA, Madden, NBA Live and UFC to launch in the next twelve months. And it’ll all be powered by EA Sport Ignite – the new EA game engine. There are four times more calculations per second for – they claim to offer human-like intelligence. Plus ten times more animation depth and detail for enhanced player motion. Living worlds with 3D crowds, dynamic sidelines, and a daily stream of new content that impacts the game as you play are also exciting extras. Plus football fans will be pleased to hear Ultimate Team is appearing in FIFA 14.

Forza Motorsport 5 – available at launch – looks stunning, with every fleck of metallic paint visible on the cars. But little else was revealed other than that there will be more to follow at E3.
Game maker Remedy – of Max Payne and Alan Wake fame – unveiled Quantum Break. “Time is the fire in which we burn” was the line on the trailer. Time shifting powers affect the story of the game as time breaks down and you rush to save the day. Other than that and the obligatory phenomenal graphics, it's something of a mystery.

Call of Duty: Ghosts reboots the venerable CoD franchise with new characters and a storyline scripted by the Oscar-winning writer of Traffic and Syriana. But never mind all that, what does all that Xbox One processing grunt get you? A realistic dog (with visible ear tattoo!), fish that flee your approach as you get near, and mind-bogglingly good graphics that pick out every hair on your arms, and the dirt under your fingernails. Multiplayer gamers get dynamic maps and mind-boggling levels of character customisation. And, you guessed it, more to follow at E3.
There are more titles in development now than at any other time in Microsoft’s history – fifteen are due out in the first year of console release, eight of which are new franchises.

Xbox One – Halo

While there was no word of a new Halo game, Microsoft and 343 Industries had one big surprise up their collective sleeve – a live-action Halo TV show is on the way, with involvement from none other than Steven Spielberg. We can't wait for more, and will have details for you as they come in – in the meantime, check out the Halo short films by Neill Blomkamp for an idea of what the future could hold for the franchise.

Xbox One Release Date

While no specific date was given, Microsoft did however confirm that Xbox One will be available worldwide later this year. That would likely mean around November, 2013.

Review: GeForce GTX Titan

Nvidia lands a killing blow on single Gpu performance with this astonishing card.

Make no bones about it, the GeForce Titan is an absolute monster of a graphics card, a true flagship product that has been developed without compromise and worth every bit of its massive $1250 pricetag. It is also overkill for the vast majority of the population, a product purely for those who spend their evenings lusting over silicon, rather than a must-have gaming accessory.
Titan is Nvidia’s Kepler GPU at its most potent, with 2688 CUDA cores and 288GB/s memory bandwidth driving 6GB of GDDR5. In contrast, the already excellent GeForce GTX 680 GPU has 1536 CUDA cores and 192GB/s memory bandwidth, and comes with only 2GB of GDDR5 as standard.
Titan achieves this massive bump thanks to the use of Nvidia’s GK110 core, which has previously been unavailable to consumers (the GTX 680 and 690 cards use the lesser GK104 core). Until now it has only been used to power Tesla cards for use in the Cray Titan supercomputer, a heritage that gives the card its name.
If anything, the GeForce GTX Titan is a sign of a major shift in the cadence of GPU releases. There is an almost overarching belief that new GPUs need to land along the 18 month timeline determined by Moore’s Law, but the reality is that we have reached a point where massive jumps in theoretical performance don’t translate to real world boosts. This is down to a variety of factors, from the stagnation of mainstream PC monitors at 1920 x 1080 resolution, through to the age of the current generation consoles. Given the sheer prevalence of multiplatform game development, games rarely do anything to tax bleeding edge GPUs, and this is a situation unlikely to change with the launch of the Playstation 4 and whatever Microsoft ends up calling Durango.
Despite this stagnation of the mainstream, there are still edge cases where a GeForce GTX 680 or Radeon HD 7970 don’t deliver enough performance to satisfy. We are talking exotic resolutions like 2560 x 1440, as well as higher resolutions delivered by multi-monitor setups. These are out there, but they are definitely the exception to the rule.
In a lot of cases gamers running such setups need to resort to multi-GPU solutions through SLI or Crossfire, or single-card, dual-GPU products like Nvidia’s GTX 690 or the handful of semi-official Radeon HD 7990 cards. The inherent problem with these is that driver support can often be patchy, and the situation where newly released games can’t take advantage of the dual GPU solutions is all too common.
This is the niche that Titan occupies, and does so in a quite spectacular manner. It delivers huge performance in our standard benchmarks, and was capable of feats of graphical brilliance in the GPU-torturing Crysis 3 that we found other cards incapable of.
In Crysis 3 we were able to max out every graphics setting, turn on FXAA and run it at 2560 x 1600 resolution and still see framerates just over a very playable 30fps. This is where the 6GB of memory on Titan really comes into its own – most GPUs struggle with any sort of AA at high resolutions, largely because they run out of memory.
In 3DMark we saw Titan score 8389 in the high-end Fire Strike test, significantly ahead of the 6090 scored by the GTX 680, but still behind the dual GPU Asus ARES II card, which managed 11,711. This shows the massive single-GPU advantages delivered by Titan, while also indicating that dual-GPU solutions are quicker in the right circumstances.
Ultimately this is where both the strengths and weaknesses of the GTX Titan lie. A dual-GPU setup is going to be a faster solution in pretty much every case, but dual-GPU cards cost notably more than Titan, while also suffering from the issue that you are more beholden to driver updates to play cutting edge games. On the other hand Titan doesn’t have this driver issue, and also delivers the fastest single-GPU performance on the market by a long, long way.

Gran Turismo 6 Teaser Trailer

Sony will announce Gran Turismo 6 on May 15th, 2013.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) will host a celebration of the 15th anniversary of 'the real driving simulator' at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit (UK) on 15th May, 2013. The original Gran Turismo® game was first seen in Japan in December, 1997, after five years of development by legendary designer Kazunori Yamauchi, and then released around the world during 1998. The franchise went on to become multi award winning and the biggest-selling PlayStation® title ever.

Yamauchi-san is set to provide an update on the future of the Gran Turismo game at Silverstone. His passion for all things automotive is evident in the ever-increasing levels of realism and attention to detail in Gran Turismo, and the huge range of cars for which it is famous. Strong relationships with the many manufacturers that have featured in the franchise have led to some fascinating co-operations with the automotive world; such as the Red Bull X2010 ultimate race car, GTbyCitroën concept, a design co-operation for a display featuring on the real Nissan GT-R and an innovative new app developed for the Toyota GT86.

In a close partnership with Nissan, PlayStation has taken the virtual-to-reality overlap, inspired by Gran Turismo, to a new level in the form of the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy. The now-famous racing driver development program selects the fastest GT gamers from around the world and transfers their talent to real-world racing. The competition began in 2008 and has gone from strength to strength. Over three million people have entered since its inception, and graduates of the Academy have recorded some impressive results, including a second-place finish in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class. Five Gran Turismo gamers turned GT Academy champions will be on hand at Silverstone. The 'Nismo Athletes' will be showing off their real-world racing skills with some high-speed passenger laps around the famous circuit, a track that has, so far, never featured in Gran Turismo.

This mutual respect and increasing blurring of the lines between the virtual and real, has led to the Silverstone event being well supported by a host of other manufacturers as well, such as Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes Benz, Tesla and Toyota. Real-life versions of their cars, old and new, familiar to the legions of passionate Gran Turismo fans will be on display and on-track as part of the event.

"The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation," explained Jim Ryan, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. "We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia and Japan. We are very grateful to our manufacturer partners for helping us to bring together a fantastic event. As well as experiencing the development of the game and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what's next for Gran Turismo."
