Data transfer tech will soon be running at 20Gbps

The new Thunderbolt upgrade will roll out next year

The latest version of Intel's Thunderbolt input/output technology can transfer data at speeds of 20Gbps, in both directions, making it twice as fast as current versions of the tech.
The technology was introduced in 2011 as a data transfer rival to USB 3.0, allowing users to quickly transfer files between peripherals and computers, such as Apple's MacBook line on which it features prominently.
Presenting at the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas, the company said the new tech will also support 4K video transfer and display when it starts to appear in products next year.
The advanced speeds mean that 4K video could be played back on a connected display, while simultaneously sending the file to storage devices at 20Gbps.

4K Macs?

This could eventually encourage the likes of Apple, a big Thunderbolt supporter, to consider building iMacs, MacBooks or external displays compatible with the Ultra HD resolution.
It also opens the door for more recent proponents of the tech, like HP, Asus and Lenovo to do the same.
The new version of the technology will be also be compatible with current-generation Thunderbolt cables and connectors. Intel said it plans to ramp up full production in 2014.
During its presentation Intel said it wasn't planning to stop at 20Gbps. By 2015, it says Thunderbolt will be running at 50Gbps, five times faster than current 10Gbps Thunderbolt connectivity.

Command & Conquer: Generals 2

Command & Conquer is an upcoming real-time strategy video game in the Command & Conquer series, developed by BioWare Victory for the Microsoft Windows platform.

The game will utilize the Frostbite 2 engine and will also introduce downloadable content to the series. It is the first game in the series to be developed by BioWare Victory, making them the series' third developer after Westwood Studios and EA Los Angeles. Command & Conquer will be available exclusively on Electronic Arts' Origin distribution service. The game was announced as Command & Conquer: Generals 2 until it was repurposed as a free-to-play game.

On August 15, 2012, it was announced that Generals 2 would be repurposed to a free-to-play game known as simply Command & Conquer. The official website also released a blog entry that said that the Command & Conquer: Generals 2 game will be called Command & Conquer. The content which has been built for Generals 2 will be delivered into the new C&C game. Although some have incorrectly speculated this change meant the Generals sequel is no more, Electronic Arts has stated that Generals 2 will simply be the first in the new series of free-to-play games.
Following the negative reaction from series fans that Command & Conquer would not have a single-player campaign, EA President Frank Gibeau thinks that a single-player storyline is still a possibility. "The beauty of free-to-play is that we can adjust and adapt to what we're hearing as opposed to, 'I'm sorry, it's two months from ship and it is what it is.' It's a very different model because you don't have to build as much. You build in response to your audience." It was later revealed that the game will have a single-player campaign

Total War: Rome II

HOW FAR WILL YOU GO FOR ROME?

Become the world’s first superpower and command the most incredible and vast war machine of the Ancient world. Dominate the enemies of your glorious empire by military, economic and political means.
Your rise will bring admiration from your followers but will also attract greed and jealousy, even from your closest allies.
Will betrayal strike you down, or will you be the first to turn on old friends? How much are you ready to sacrifice for your vision of Rome? Will you fight to save the Republic, or plot to rule alone as Dictator — as Emperor?

Ranging from the Spanish coast to the far-flung, exotic kingdoms of the east, the campaign map for Total War: ROME II™ is breath-taking in scope, and a study in detail and variety. This page is your source for background information about each of the playable factions: their starting position on the campaign map, their civic and military focus, and some of their key battlefield units.
The playable factions represent key powers within the Greco-Roman, Barbarian, and Eastern cultures, and each offers a notably different and deeper form of gameplay experience from those in previous Total War games. Each brings unique commercial, military and political strengths, its own agents and political system, and three tech trees representing civic, military and engineering disciplines. Each will have its own dilemmas to face and different styles of army to manage. Some factions are split into a number of playable families, which bring further unique benefits to their base faction traits.
Players will need to work with – and in certain circumstances against – their faction’s internal political system. You’ll direct the actions of famous characters from history, and if they’re not out in the field commanding your armies, they’ll be politicking in the senate house, or its cultural equivalent. Players would be wise to keep an eye on such individuals…
Some factions rely more on mercenaries for their military might; some prefer to train their own. Some rely on client-nations or vassals to boost their economic growth, while others are more trade-focussed. Whichever you choose, each faction brings a completely different gameplay experience to Total War: ROME II™.

Although Sony has already announced its upcoming PS4 hardware specs, DICE studio executive producer, Patrick Bach, noted that nobody outside Microsoft and Sony knows the final specs of their next gen consoles.

"I don't know if anyone has the next-gen hardware to be honest – really,” he said. "There are versions of it, but does anyone have the final hardware? Do we really know what the final hardware will be?”
Patrick explained that development studios (including DICE) working on next-gen titles are building them using alpha hardware with non-final specs.
"There are specs and alpha hardware, but nobody knows exactly what it will be," he said. "The only thing I can say about what we're building is that we've set the bar with what we can do and we can scale it down to 360 and PS3."
Earlier this week, DICE released the first Battlefield 4 gameplay video. "What you saw is pre-alpha - it's not the final game or anything," explained Patrick. "We are lacking a lot of optimization. Without going into detail about what it could look like on a lower spec machine or a higher spec machine, we will have the scalability to bring the most out of any piece of hardware."
