It appears that earlier rumors were true as U.K. retailer Tesco has put up a listing for Call of Duty: Ghosts alongside some box art for the game.
The game is listed for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC with a place holder date set for the end of the year–usual release date is early November. Of course this isn’t an official confirmation, but it seems odd for a major retailer to list a game that is simply a rumor doesn’t it?
Activision’s community manager has previously stated that we will hear about the next Call of Duty by E3 2013, so presumably not long to go now.

Microsoft will resurrect the Start button in Windows 8.1 (Blue), which is due to be released later this year. This follows last week’s news that Windows 8.1 will let you to skip the Start screen after logging in, allowing you to boot straight to the Desktop.

This news comes from The Verge, which cites the usual “sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans.” Don’t get too excited, though: As it stands, the resurrected Start button will still open the new, tile-based Metro Start screen. For now, there doesn’t seem to be any plans to bring back the old Start menu — for that, you’ll still need to install a third-party Start button/menu app. Who knows, though — if Microsoft has finally decided to back down on its severe Start-screen-über-alles stance to appease Desktop users, then it would make sense for the Start menu to also make a glorious return. We also don’t know if the Start button will be visible by default in Windows 8.1, or enabled via an option that’s hidden deep within the Control Panel.

If Microsoft had opted to kill the Start button or introduce the brand-new Start screen with Windows 8, that would’ve been bad enough. That Microsoft decided to do both at the same time, both alienating the old users and disorienting the new, will remain one of the tech world’s greatest mysteries. There was definitely an argument for removing the Start menu — it wasn’t being used much, and the new Start screen replicates most of its features — but in combination with the other changes it made Windows 8′s learning curve dauntingly steep, leading us to call Windows 8′s interface a train wreck. As the head of Microsoft, Julie Larson-Green, said: it may take up to six weeks until users feel truly comfortable with Windows 8′s interface changes.

In Microsoft’s defense, it claims that it removed the Start button and menu due to data gathered by Windows 7′s Customer Experience Improvement Program, which reports anonymous usage telemetry to Microsoft. It is ironic, though, that Microsoft’s outgoing CFO says that the resurrection of the Start button, and booting straight to the Desktop, is due to “customer feedback.” Personally, I think that Microsoft forced the Start screen upon us in a desperate attempt to gain mobile relevancy and market share, but we’ll probably never know the truth.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

There isn't much to say about Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, given that the original Wii game is a known quality. Retro Studios' 2D platformer was always a looker, playing with depth in a way that made the game feel far more dynamic and exciting than other games in the genre. It was a perfect fit for 3D, which is why it transitions so well onto 3DS. In fact, it's probably my favorite use of 3D on Nintendo's handheld so far.
Outside of Super Mario 3D Land, not many games have enticed me to turn the 3D slider on. And even when I turn it on, I usually keep it on the lowest possible setting. With Donkey Kong Country Returns, however, I found myself wanting to keep the 3D running at maximum strength.
Although the 3DS port (handled by Monster Games) loses quite a lot of detail compared to the Wii original, the 3D effects are absolutely superb. It's hard not to be impressed when Donkey and Diddy Kong are shot out of barrels, and pillars are falling towards the screen. This is definitely the technical showcase 3DS has been waiting for.

Those that played the Wii original probably have holes in their walls, thanks to its borderline-psychotic difficulty. The 3DS version offers an easier experience, with Donkey and Diddy Kong equipped with three hearts instead of two, and being able to use items to more readily recover from failure. I welcome the changes, as I found the original a bit too stressful for my tastes--but gamers that expect more of a challenge can play the game with the original Wii settings.
While DKCR's winning gameplay and amazing 3D visuals will appeal to 3DS owners that missed the game's original release, do Wii owners have reason to double-dip? Probably not. The 3DS version is easily the better version, and it also includes a special "World 9" not included in the original Wii release. However, this extra set of levels requires beating the game all over again. (There's no way to skip ahead to play the new content.) While eight new (challenging) levels might be reason enough for the Donkey Kong faithful, for most it won't be enough to warrant another purchase.
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will be available on 3DS on May 24.

Data transfer tech will soon be running at 20Gbps

The new Thunderbolt upgrade will roll out next year

The latest version of Intel's Thunderbolt input/output technology can transfer data at speeds of 20Gbps, in both directions, making it twice as fast as current versions of the tech.
The technology was introduced in 2011 as a data transfer rival to USB 3.0, allowing users to quickly transfer files between peripherals and computers, such as Apple's MacBook line on which it features prominently.
Presenting at the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas, the company said the new tech will also support 4K video transfer and display when it starts to appear in products next year.
The advanced speeds mean that 4K video could be played back on a connected display, while simultaneously sending the file to storage devices at 20Gbps.

4K Macs?

This could eventually encourage the likes of Apple, a big Thunderbolt supporter, to consider building iMacs, MacBooks or external displays compatible with the Ultra HD resolution.
It also opens the door for more recent proponents of the tech, like HP, Asus and Lenovo to do the same.
The new version of the technology will be also be compatible with current-generation Thunderbolt cables and connectors. Intel said it plans to ramp up full production in 2014.
During its presentation Intel said it wasn't planning to stop at 20Gbps. By 2015, it says Thunderbolt will be running at 50Gbps, five times faster than current 10Gbps Thunderbolt connectivity.
